Dear Ones,
Happy almost-Pentecost! I remind you: wear RED on Sunday to celebrate the arrival of the Holy Spirit.
In other news, we have a change of leadership coming on June 1 that I’m excited to share with you. It’s been the custom of the parish for the Warden positions to turn over annually. There’s been some flex with that at various times, and this has been one of those times. Janene Smith ran for a second year as Junior Warden and has been serving as such for this first half of 2023.
However, it had been our intent to make a change earlier. We had recruited Ginny McNally to run for Junior Warden at the end of 2022, but with several other commitments on her plate last fall/winter, she knew she would not be able to fulfill the duties as she’d want to at that point. We determined that Janene could very capably serve until Ginny’s load lessened, and if needed, that she would complete the 2nd term.
We’re happy to report that Ginny has found her way to more flexibility in her life and schedule, so she is happy and eager to take the reins. So the Vestry voted at our May meeting to accept Janene Smith’s resignation from the role of Junior Warden as of June 1, and to appoint Ginny McNally to complete the term in her place. Ginny will be eligible to run for a full term at our next Annual Meeting in January of 2024.
I am so grateful to Janene for her tireless efforts, advocacy, and wisdom as she’s served as Junior Warden at CCA. She has a multitude of gifts to share and I know we will continue to benefit from her strategic, thoughtful leadership in new ways.
And I’m so grateful to Ginny McNally, not just for being a willing servant, but also being wise enough to not overload her plate at a crucial moment for herself and for the parish. Discernment is a vital spiritual gift, and she’s already shown that in spades. I know we will be in excellent hands as she takes the reins as Junior Warden beginning next week.
Janene and Ginny have already started partnering with each other for the transfer of knowledge and information, and Janene is committed to making sure that Ginny has all she needs to succeed. Please, as you encounter them, give them your thanks and appreciation for all they do to love and serve the Lord through the community of Christ Church of the Ascension.
Thanks be to God!
Faithfully,
Mother Erika
