Beloveds,
This coming weekend is Good Shepherd Sunday. Always the 4th Sunday in Easter, it’s an intentional time to reflect intentionally on Jesus’ description of himself as the shepherd of the sheep. This week, because it’s year A of the Lectionary, we will hear Jesus not only refer to himself as the Shepherd, but also to himself as the Gate to the sheepfold. Going to and fro from the pasture – the nurturing land – through Him – is our calling.
What does it mean for us to live through Christ? How do we make Him the lens we see everything through? The good times and the bad, the challenges and the joys. How do we allow Him to be deeply present in every moment?
It is hard to believe that we are 1/3 of the way through 2023 already. We’ve done good, big things to get our house in order. And we are seeing increased volunteerism, a deeply positive energy, and hope for the future of CCA. That is all because of you. You’re choosing over and over to live through Christ…even in the midst of uncertainty about it all…you’re choosing Him.
Well done, good and faithful servants.
I urge you to continue. When fear seems to be in the driver’s seat, or when worries are set forth, when it’s hard to turn toward each other and feels safer to turn inward so we are alone and protected, keep choosing Him. And on the days that you just find you cannot sustain that choice, be gentle with yourself. We all know some days are harder than others. And our gentle shepherd, whose voice soothes us and does not scold us, is with us even in the moments it’s hardest to reach out to him. We will never be left alone.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday as we celebrate the Good Shepherd together.
In Him,
Mother Erika
