Dear Ones,
Well, my family is at 4 down, 1 who is weirdly immune. Luckily it remains mild, though my currently quite deep voice might belong better in a smoky jazz bar!
While at home, I’ve been able to keep up a bit with all things Lambeth. At its most basic, the Lambeth gathering is an every-10-years opportunity for all bishops in The Anglican Communion to gather in community with one another at Lambeth Palace, the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
I confess I am not one to follow it closely, but there’s been a bit of late-in-the-game drama which has piqued everyone’s interest.
Our Bishop wrote on it last week though much has changed since then. However, you can view her words here:
The Lambeth Calls for Whom? by Bishop Reddall
Additionally, a priest I know from seminary(who also used to be our Chaplain at NAU!) has written a fairly easy to understand summary of how it all went down thus far, and adds some humor and color commentary about all things Anglican along the way too. Her link is here:
What is up with Lambeth? by Rev. Megan Castellan
Ultimately, we are a collective of churches who are bound together without obligation to each other or to a human king or leader. We owe our allegiance only to God, and we offer our common love and respect to each other in His name. We work to learn from one another in community. That is and can remain the blessing of this thing called The Anglican Communion. It is truly the blessing of any community when we allow it to be.
We all don’t have to be in 100% accord about every part of life and faith at CCA either to offer our love and respect to one another. We can choose to learn from one another and walk this part of our faith life with curiosity and kindness.
I love being part of the global Anglican Communion. It is, for me, a sign of hope that we exist in community and that we have all chosen to seek relationship with one another. I ask your prayers for all the bishops gathered, for all the nations represented, and for love to be the driving force throughout their time together.
Blessings,
Mother Erika
